For everyone connected to Dawn Michaels School, Okota Lagos, Tuesday the 18th of February 2025 was a day of intense drama, excitement and ‘sport-a-tainment’ (sports entertainment) as the school hosted its much-anticipated Sports Festival 5.0, themed Empowering Future Champions.

The event, which took place at Ikeja-GRA, Lagos, was a thrilling display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, bringing together students, staff, and parents for an unforgettable experience.

The festival was graced by esteemed guests, including the Sports Festival Chairman, Mr. Bright Nwosu; the Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr Chris Ndulue; the School’s Executive Director, Mrs Uchenna Ndulue; the P.T.A Chairman, Mr Uche Nwadialor; the Head of School, Mr Isaac Ekeno and other distinguished staff members, parents and friends of Dawn Michaels School. The DMS and Nigerian Red Cross teams were also present, ensuring safety and first-aid support throughout the event.

The ceremony kicked off with an inspiring opening remark by Mr. Bright Nwosu, who received  the Sports Festival flames torch from the various captains of the houses and the sports prefects, and held it aloft to mark the official commencement of the games.

A Parade of Colors and Excellence

The six school houses—Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple—proudly marched past, honouring the event’s Chairman, Executive Director, and the P.T.A Chairman with salutations and symbolic gifts.

The march past was a vibrant display of coordination, creativity, and school spirit, with Yellow House receiving special recognition for their outstanding performance, synchronization, discipline, and overall creativity.

Exciting Competitions and Activities

The festival featured a range of engaging activities for students across all age groups, including:

  • Relay and Sprints – Speed and endurance tested in thrilling sprints.
  • Spell-A-Thon – A fun and educational competition for the Early Years.
  • Tug of War – A test of strength, strategy, and teamwork.
  • Fill-In-The-Bottle Challenge – A game of accuracy and speed.
  • Ball Picking/Sorting – A game of strategy to check speed in collecting target balls
  • Balloon Burst – Adding excitement and fun to the day….. amongst others.

Adding to the excitement, parents and staff were not left out as they participated in their own sprint competitions, bringing an extra layer of camaraderie and enthusiasm to the festival.

Crowning the Champions

After an intense and competitive day, Purple House emerged as the overall winner, topping the scoreboard with the highest number of accumulated gold medals, and proudly lifting the Gold Trophy.

Yellow House won the march past contest with excellent display of creativity, uniformity, discipline, and vibrant energy.

A Day to Remember!

The Sports Festival 5.0 was a resounding success, fostering a spirit of healthy competition, teamwork, and sports excellence among students.

It was a day of celebration, determination, and unforgettable moments, reinforcing the values of sportsmanship and perseverance that define Dawn Michaels School.
